AGVs, short for automated guided vehicles, transport all types of goods around the hospital –, reliably and efficiently. Specifically designed for intensive clinical use, they navigate their way through the hospital. Patient meals, linens, trash, or regulated medical waste – AGVs use corridors and elevators to reach the different departments. While caregivers focus on the patients, AGVs ensure a smooth material flow.
AGVs have been specifically designed to meet hygiene, safety, and reliability standards that are particularly crucial in the hospital sector. Our engineers regularly upgrade the AGVs to respond to your changing requirements and evolving practices.
Caregivers lose valuable time when completing logistical tasks. Transport tasks that occur hundreds of times a day can easily be delegated to AGVs. They secure the flow of goods and are easy to install, maintain, and update. Caregivers can focus on their core business: proper patient care.
Our systems are specifically designed to meet hospital requirements in terms of safety, hygiene, and reliability. AGVs can handle a wide range of different trolleys (food, waste, pharmaceuticals, etc.). They can also be adapted to various non-standard formats.
Compact, agile, lightweight. Autonomous guided vehicles use elevators to pick up and drop off containers in services departments and care units following a predetermined schedule.
Guided by lasers, autonomous vehicles deliver items from a central station to the floors. Food, cupboards, linen, waste – not everything can be transported in the same way. Especially in the hospital environment, the transport items vary.
Our three types of AGVs work together considering weight, size, and shape of the transported items.
Our autonomous guided vehicles are electrically powered and use natural navigation. Instead of additional hardware installations such as tapes, wires, or reflectors, the system navigates based on the facility’s architecture and rotating high-resolution laser scanning (40 m range). The AGVs also communicate with central supervision via your wireless network. This allows very precise traffic control since the AGVs receive instructions on a real-time basis.
The supervision is also interfaced with the layout of the building including elevators, doors, fire protection, etc. Our AGVs move very efficiently on those dedicated paths and can also deliver carts to the patient wards on upper floors.
Autonomous vehicles monitor their battery level and recharge automatically on specific stations when necessary.
First of all, the AGV systems need space to perform efficiently. Although they can manoeuver in tight rooms, an adequate space to store the carts is necessary on both logistic stations and wards.
Also, AGVs follow a dedicated path that often includes elevators, for example. If they are unavailable, items arrive late. Hence, a technically running environment is helpful.
In hospitals, AGVs typically deliver food (2 – 3 times per day), medication, sterilized equipment, linen and other supplies. They are not limited to clean, or even sterilized, items. Dirty linen, various types of waste – including infected items – can be transported with AGVs.
They are running every day. Depending on the hospital size, AGVs can move between 300 and 2,000 carts per day.
We offer 2 types of AGVs for hospitals:
The carts are monitored via IR sensors/PLC on every station; real-time status reports are sent to the central supervision. The supervision instructs the AGVs to pick up the carts. Each cart has a unique identifier (RFID, Barcode, QR code). The AGV scans the identifier and reports it to the supervision that manages a dynamic list of destinations. This way, loaded AGVs are sent to the proper destination, guaranteeing full traceability of carts.
