April 9, 2025
BROOMFIELD, Colo. (April 9, 2025) - Swisslog Healthcare, a leading supplier in pharmacy and transport automation solutions, inspired University of Colorado Boulder students with cutting-edge healthcare automation technology during an exclusive tour of its state-of-the-art facility. The company opened its doors to showcase real-world applications of robotics and automation, aiming to spark interest in STEM careers.
“We really appreciate Swisslog Healthcare inviting us on-site to talk with their engineers and tour their facilities,” said Katherine Pickens McConnell Faculty Advisor and Professional Development Advisor for CU Boulder Mechanical Engineering. Being able to see the scale of what they’re working on and hear about the kinds of technical challenges that go into designing their systems has been a great way to explore careers in automation.”
The tour, held during National Robotics Week (April 5-12), taught students about robotic and automation solutions used across North America in thousands of hospitals. Students also learned how these technologies can lead to career opportunities in the healthcare industry.
"The next generation of the industry’s MedTech workforce is expressing interest in our technology and innovations. Opening our Technology Center to students can inspire them and expose them to future career options," said Amanda Costanzi, Head of Global Marketing & Communications at Swisslog Healthcare. "These students will soon join the workforce and will continue to enhance the technology behind patient care."
As part of its North American headquarters, the Swisslog Healthcare Technology Center offers an immersive test-and-learn environment and showroom for training, education, and customer evaluation of pharmacy automation solutions and pneumatic tube systems. The tour provided students with an interactive experience, showcasing the impact of robotics and automation in healthcare. Highlights included a demonstration of the PillPick, an automated packaging and dispensing robot that prepares individualized patient medications. Students also walked through the warehouse, observing the TransLogic Pneumatic Tube System and its ability to meet diverse transport needs in healthcare facilities across North America.
The Technology Center is LEED Certified with more than 80,000 square feet of functional space and an expansive 30-foot ceiling including backup generators equivalent to the strength of hospital generators. The space allows Swisslog Healthcare to strengthen community connections and demonstrate STEM career opportunities for aspiring students.
